The honest answer is that it depends, but you deserve better than that, so here are real numbers and the reasons behind them.
What you can expect to pay
For a full interior repaint of a 3 to 4 bedroom Perth home, most jobs land between $8,000 and $18,000. The spread is wide because the price follows the condition of the surfaces and the scope, not the number of rooms. A tidy home that just wants a fresh coat sits at the lower end. A home with patched ceilings, water stains, gloss doors to be re-prepped and detailed trims sits higher.
Exterior repaints vary more again, because access and substrate change everything. Single-storey render is straightforward. A double-storey home with high gables, tired weatherboards or a chalking old finish takes more prep, more setup and more time.
Our minimum job is $1,500. Single-wall touch-ups are not really how we work, and if that is all you need we are happy to point you to someone better suited.
What actually drives the price
- Preparation. This is the biggest variable and the part most people never see in a quote. Washing down, sanding, filling, patching gyprock and getting the right primers on is where a finish is won or lost. More prep costs more up front and saves you a repaint years early.
- Surface condition. Sound walls take paint. Flaking, chalking or water-damaged surfaces need making good first.
- Ceilings and detail. Ceiling work, cornices, doors and trims all add labour. A walls-only refresh is quicker than a full interior.
- Finish level. Two coats of premium Dulux over correctly prepared surfaces is the standard we quote. Cutting that back is where cheap quotes find their savings.
- Access. Height, scaffold and tight sites all add time on exterior work.
Why some quotes are so much cheaper
A cheaper quote almost always means one of three things: less preparation, lower-grade paint, or a partial scope that quietly grows once the job starts. The number that matters is not the quote, it is what you actually pay by the end and how long the finish lasts. We quote the whole job up front, including full prep and two coats of premium Dulux, so the price you are told is the price you pay.
How to compare painters’ quotes
Ask every painter the same questions: How many coats? What brand and product? What prep is included? Is it fixed-price and in writing? A quote that itemises prep and names the paint is one you can trust. A one-line number is a guess waiting to change.
